We'll meet you at the Barre! Ballet inspired movement with Barre Body.
Situated in Windsor, Melbourne our team recently went to check out the beautiful new space of Barre Body.
Natural light fills the rooms and hits the walls creating a bright studio as you walk down the hallway as you enter Barre Body. Greeted with a friendly face, this studio is peaceful and grounding with interior choices of plants, a place to sit and even a welcome gesture of a cup of infused tea to get you relaxed and in the mindset for the class ahead.
There is a spacious change room to put your belongings down with lockers for your valuables available to stay secure. A hanging chair and seating allows you to have some me time and with such a peaceful space you will never want to leave- if only you could stay there all day long!
Our class taught by Elyse, started strong and continued with quick repetitive movements with a mixture of Ballet and Pilates exercises throughout the class. With an aim to tone, sculpt and create longer, leaner muscles, you could definitely tell from these exercises and by doing these classes few times a week how Ballet Dancers and in general class goers can get an improved posture and more shapely muscles very quickly!
We walked away from this class feeling muscles we may not have before and although we may not have been that graceful, it was a great mix up and toning exercise for our bodies!
Barre Body offers signature classes such as Barre Body, Barre Cardio and Barre Tone along with now offering Pilates Reformer classes exclusively to their Windsor Studio.
Reformer Flow, Reformer Form and Reformer Fit are the classes on offer you can try aimed to create strength in all the right places!
Barre Body classes are sure to leave you feeling energised, empowered and even walking away feeling muscles shake like they never have before!
Here we catch up with Amy, Marketing and Online Director at Barre Body to discuss their classes in more detail!
Tell us about the Barre Body! What is Barre Body’s philosophy?
Barre Body is one of the pioneers in Australia’s boutique fitness movement, and is a complete body workout fusing ballet barre conditioning, yoga and Pilates. Classes are designed to tone your entire body, creating longer, leaner muscles.
Ballet & Pilates exercises at the barre and on the mat tone your muscles, while complementary yoga postures lengthen and shape your muscles (think long & lean like a ballet dancer!) The interval training format (raising and lowering the heart rate) means that you get fast results, fat burning is increased and your metabolism is boosted for hours after your workout. Barre Body works your entire body, giving special attention to the lesser used muscles, resulting in a total body toning effect. It’s fun (and addictive when you see how quickly it shapes your body).
In terms of a philosophy, we’re all about mindful movement. We move with intention and we honour our bodies – pushing them when we need to, and allowing them to rest when our bodies call for it. (Hello, savasana.)
Take us through what a typical class would be for a newcomer to Barre Body- what can we expect?
One of the beautiful things about Barre Body is that every class and every teacher is different (which means you never get bored, and your body doesn’t stagnate). However, regardless of the class, you’ll always achieve a full body workout, with a raised heartrate, lots of toning, and mindful relaxation.
Beginners are very welcome (in fact, some of our most popular teachers were once beginner students in class who went on to complete our Teacher Training after falling in love!) and after class, if you’re feeling a little burn around the thighs, a bit shaky in the arms and a general discovery of muscles in places you never knew you had … Then yep, your experience is completely normal! You might be a bit sore the day after your first class, but rest assured that this is just your muscles reforming themselves; creating the most beautiful, toned version of YOU.
There are a few different classes on offer at your studio’s- what are the main differences between them? Do they vary depending on fitness levels?
Our Barre Body classes are all strong and dynamic, designed to stretch, tone and reshape your body. Be prepared to feel like you’ve had a workout! We have Barre Body, Barre Tone, Barre Cardio and Barre Yin. When you put them all together, they make for a complete, holistic workout that means you achieve endurance, fitness, toning, resilience and mental calm. It’s the perfect mix, if we do say so ourselves!
What makes Barre Body classes unique from other studios?
Ask anyone about what sets Barre Body apart, and they’ll undoubtedly use one word – love. Everything we do is infused with love. Whether it’s the way our teachers greet you when you enter class, the way we encourage you to move your body, or the way we engage through our various communication and social media channels, it’s all about the love.
Who is Barre Body best suited to and how often should people practice it?
Barre Body is suited to anyone who wants to feel strong, lean, calm and supported in their workouts. Young and old, uber fit or not-quite-there-yet, professional ballerina or amateur footballer – we love them all at Barre Body. We find clients begin to experience a difference after 3-4 classes per week for a 4 week period.
What are the major benefits from your Barre Body classes?
Barre Body lengthens, strengthens, tones and balances your body and your mind. It’s a workout like no other, and while people come for their bodies, they stay for their souls and the beautiful community we build here.
